Conan the Barbarian is a well known figure in America. He is the most famous fictional barbarian character who appeared in books, comics and movies. A hero and an icon, the Americans have truly made him a barbarian classic. Conan is a fantasy hero that was created by Robert Howard around 1932. The story revolved around the time between after Atlantis was destroyed and before the rise of many ancient civilizations.

In the story, Conan was the son of a blacksmith. At the age of fifteen, Conan was already a respected warrior in their village. As he grew older, he became a thief and an outlaw who roamed throughout the nations. At the age of forty, he was able to seize Aquillonia, the most powerful kingdom in the nation. He killed the tyrannical king who ruled Aquillonia by strangling him to death. His adventures are for personal gains or own survival but most commonly resulted into heroic deeds.

Despite his barbaric appearance, Conan had a good balance of using his brain and muscles. A talented commander and leader, he was also a very talented fighter. He has amazing stamina that allows him to be strong despite lack of sleep for how many days.

A loyal friend o those who are loyal to him, he honors the barbaric code of conduct which made him very honorable. Though he is not superhuman, his fighting skills are impeccable, whether he engages in an unarmed or armed combat.

Conan the Barbarian became so famous that it spawned into many media forms. From movies, books, comics and video games, this barbarian will always be part of the American classics and will always be an inspiration to barbarian costume makers. As the years go by, another barbarian character was brought to life. From Disney Channel Original Series, Dave the Barbarian was created by Doug Langdale. The show first came on air on January 2004.

The cartoon show takes place during the Middle Ages. Dave, a coward barbarian, lives in the land of Udrogoth. With him are his sisters, Candy and Fang and watches the castle as their parents and king and Queen of the land, Throktar and Glimia, are fighting evil all over the world. Dave, his sisters and wizard uncle are left to protect and run their kingdom.

From the premiere on January 23, 2004, the show only lasted for a year. The show was cancelled in 2005, making it one of the shortest Disney Channel shows. It only had 21 episodes but despite the cancellation, it still continues to air in other countries. Although it lasted for only a year, the kids have grown in the children’s heart. When Dave the Barbarian made its appearance on Disney, kids wanted to wear a barbarian costume. It is still available in many costume shops during Halloween.
